Robert has had long wide ranging experience in commercial civil litigation and has been involved in many heavily contested often high profile trials often as lead advocate. He is primarily a litigator but also devotes a substantial part of his practice to advice work. His specialist business practice focuses on commercial and chancery and includes partnership, construction, fraud and asset tracing and professional negligence. Since the late seventies and eighties, when they were first being developed, he has been involved with many freezing and search orders and similar interim applications. He acted in one of the leading cases on solicitors' liens (Ismail v Richards Butler).
He has had particular experience over the years in intellectual property matters ranging from trade marks, including a major reported case, to copyright, including patents and design rights. His particular expertise extends to media & entertainment law. He has chaired and for some years delivered lectures at the annual intellectual property law and sporting law conference for London Legal Training. His lecture topics have included rights of privacy, performers' rights, performers' royalties and database rights.
